NOTE: The registered version of QUAKE is REQUIRED to run the add-ons
on this CDROM.
Please be sure to make backups of all of the important files in your Quake
directory before making any modifications to the game.
The first thing you need to do to run external files is make a
few directories. These directories should be in the id1 directory
of your Quake directory. Name the subdirectories as follows:
C:\QUAKE\ID1\GFX (Game effects files)
C:\QUAKE\ID1\MAPS (Map files)
C:\QUAKE\ID1\PROGS (Graphics files)
C:\QUAKE\ID1\SOUND (Sound files)
To run an external file you need to place it in its correct
directory. The file you want to run goes in its own directory.
Graphics files go in the progs directory. A map file goes in
the maps directory, sound files go in the sound directory. The
gfx directory is reserved for system files for Quake to use.
Quake will automatically load the graphics and sounds you place into
the PROGS and SOUND directories when you start the game. You will,
however, need to manually load map files from within the game.
To run an add-on map, first start the game. At any point during the
game, enter the command mode by pressing the ~ key. At the command
prompt, type "map <nameofmap>" where <nameofmap> is the name of the
add-on map file. Do not include the map's file extension.
